I had a large Chargrill Chicken Sub which cost $8.90 and was pretty darn tasty, the salad was fresh,the chicken tender and the sauces were flavoursome. The only complaint, and I found it a lot more amusing than dissapointing, was that the guy toasting my sub accidently caught the paper it was sitting on, on fire and turned a little bit of my bread into charcoal. Royal Subs is a welcome addition to Aucklands Sub sandwich landscape. Royal Subs is affiliated to Royal Kebabs several doors down the main drag in the main Ellerslie shopping centre. This connection explains the fact that their sandwichs are remarkably similar to a kebab encased in a (not quite) foot long bread roll instead of Pita bread. This is not necessarily a criticism as I found the salad and vegetables to be fresher than Subways and the Roast Lamb to be especially tasty. The bread was a little doughy but passable. An impressive array of sauces is offered including Hummus which is an interesting point of difference to other Sub Sandwich outlets. The pricing was very competitive, especially with thier main competitor - $9.00 for their large Roast Lamb sandwich.
